Senior couples with different care needs have more options to stay together

Here on Bainbridge, ‘Madrona House was created to solve a growing problem’

When a couple has spent decades together, they and their loved ones may assume they’ll remain together as they take the next step into a retirement community.

Unfortunately that’s not always been possible for seniors, especially when one of them is in need of memory-care or more involved medical care.

Thankfully, senior couples on Bainbridge Island have more options available to them at Madrona House. A mixed-care community at Bainbridge Senior Living, priority number one is keeping senior couples together while providing them with individualized care solutions.

“Madrona House was created to solve a growing problem: Ensuring senior couples could remain together, regardless of what their later years brought about,” says Morgan Rohrbach, President and CEO of Bainbridge Senior Living. “Seniors requiring memory care in particular had been a heartbreaking challenge for us in the past. They required speciality housing and care that our other three locations could not provide. We created Madrona House with this in mind.”

A four-story, mixed-care facility, Madrona House offers independent and assisted living on the first and second floors and unique memory care neighborhoods on the third and fourth floors. The community also offers a large, sweeping garden with gazebo seating and forested walking trails for residents to enjoy.

Madrona’s memory care neighborhoods are designed to provide seniors struggling with dementia and Alzheimer’s disease with a safe, calm and comfortable environment. Spouses who may not need the same level of care can live nearby, so the two can spend time together throughout the day.

“I’m so grateful that we have Madrona House to complete the full spectrum of services that Bainbridge Senior Living provides to islanders and local area residents,” says Don Roose, Founder of Bainbridge Senior Living. “The addition of this community ten years ago enabled us to take care of couples with different care needs properly all in one beautiful location.”
