Inspired by Katsushika Hokusai and his famed “36 Views of Mount Fuji” series, Kristina Hagman’s “36 Views of Mount Rainier,” a woodblock print series depicting the mountain from many vantage points, will be on display at Roby King Gallery in downtown Winslow through the end of the month.

The series was last exhibited in its entirety at the Pacific Asia Museum in 2012.

“Mount Rainier, its scale in comparison to anything man-made, makes me pause to contemplate our relationship to the natural world in a new and awesome way,” Hagman said. “The mountain snuck up on me as I followed my daily routine, tantalizing me from the corner of my eye until I had to make it the focus of my art.

“I have since traveled all over the state of Washington painting Mount Rainier from every imaginable setting,” she added. “This subject has inspired me to become a wood block artist. The series is an homage to the famous Japanese wood block artist Hokusai and his 36 Views of Mount Fuji.”

Roby King Gallery is located at 176 Winslow Way East.
