SEATTLE – Bainbridge High varsity coed tennis team powerhouse players Ben Devries and Eli Wagner won the Metro League Tournament Tuesday 6-4, 6-0.

They will go on as a top seed to the district tournament Tuesday.

“If they win their first match, I believe they will move on to state,” explained team spokesman Steven Curtis. “I believe they will receive a bye the first round.”

Jeremy Lipschutz and Alec Chan will also move on to the district tournament after their win Tuesday, 6-4, 7-6, 7-5.

Holt Ogden will move on as well with his win, also squeaked by in the third set, 6-2, 5-7, 6-0.

Several Spartans served up valiant efforts, Curtis reported, though they would not continue on in the tournament.

“Tommy Zech and Ellie Van Slyke played a very tough team [Tuesday] in the finals of the Mixed Doubles and lost a very close match, 6-2, 4-6, 2-6,” he said. “Maxwell Brown was oh-so-close to making the District Tournament, but he lost in a second set tiebreaker, 4-6, 6-7, 4-7.”

The draws for opponents in the District Tournament were expected to be out later this week, he added.
