The Battle Point Astronomical Association presents the planetarium show “Strange Optical Phenomena” at Ritchie Observatory this weekend.

Astronomer Dave Fong will discuss how the sun, the composition of the Earth’s atmosphere and particles from space can create a spectrum of strange optical phenomena at the planetarium show “Strange Optical Phenomena.”

The show is 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10.

The Battle Point Astronomical Association is a nonprofit amateur astronomy organization that operates the Edwin E. Ritchie Observatory and John H. Rudolph Planetarium in the Helix House at Battle Point Park.

After the show, join local BPAA astronomers for stargazing and look for meteors from the Perseid Meteor Shower.

The show is free to BPAA members; $2 donation suggested for nonmembers, $5 for families.
