“My work in general is born from a combination of two life-long fascinations; the natural world and all its chaotic beauty, and the ever mystifying human condition. Their intersection provides constant creative fodder,” the artist notes.

“After sketching a rough design on the back, I cut out the image from a single (often black) piece of paper with an X-acto knife. I start with a general idea, sketch it, and alter the design as needed during the process of cutting away the paper. I sometimes glue colored paper to the back side of the paper cut.”

VanDuine is showing courtesy of Bainbridge Arts & Crafts.

The Gallery at Grace is open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday through Friday; 1 to 11 a.m. Sunday, and by appointment.
