EVERETT – The Everett Seagulls soared over the Bainbridge Spartans 49-20 in a non-league football matchup Saturday, Sept. 19 in Everett.

The loss on the road left the BHS varsity team with an 0-3 overall season record so far.

Everett jumped ahead 6-0 on a fumble recovery and run with just under 10 minutes to play in the first quarter.

After another turnover — a Seagulls’ interception on the Spartan end of the field — Everett found the end zone again on a 14-yard touchdown pass and went up 14-0 with 6:31 left in the first quarter.

The Spartans answered with a rushing touchdown to cut the Seagulls’ advantage to 14-7, but Everett scored again to lead 20-7 at the end of the first quarter.

Everett connected on a touchdown pass for a 28-7 lead by halftime — and it only got worse from there for the island squad.

The win advanced the Everett season record to a perfect 3-0.

“Give credit to Bainbridge,” said Seagulls Head Coach Doug Trainor. “They really played their hearts out and played a tough, physical game that sapped a lot of our energy.”

Spartan touchdowns were scored by Adrian Rojas, Jack Frickleton and Coltrane Brooks.

The first Spartan touchdown, by Rojas, was a 1-yard run.

Frickleton managed an 8-yard run for the second BHS goal of the night and Brooks hauled in a 14-yard pass from Frickleton for the final BHS touchdown.

Tanner Shattuck went two-for-three in point-after attempts.

Sam Wysong led the Spartans’ rushing game with 12 carries for 64 yards.

Eric Jung went 11-for-77, Carter Daniels managed four carries for 65 yards and Riley Dunn finished the night with two carries for five yards. Adrian Rojas went two-for-two and Frickleton chipped in five carries for 33 yards.

The team’s receiving game saw standout performances by some of the same names.

Daniels had five receptions for 49 yards. Sam Roth finished with three receptions for 41 yards and Wysong managed one reception for four yards.

Defensively, the Spartan stats showed some much bigger numbers in this, their third outing of the season.

Ben McDonald had eight solo and two assisted tackles, Roth had seven solo tackles, Alex Pickett finished with five and one, Quinton Blevins chipped in five and one and Jospin Kingombe had five solo tackles as well.

The Spartans return to Bainbridge Island this week to host their homecoming game, against Ingraham High, at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25.
