Spartans advance more swimmers to state

MUKILTEO - The Spartans boys swimming team brought home the seventh-place team trophy in the highly competitive Kentridge Invitational earlier this month at Kamiak High.

MUKILTEO – The Spartans boys swimming team brought home the seventh-place team trophy in the highly competitive Kentridge Invitational earlier this month at Kamiak High.

Bainbridge also qualified more swimmers for the 3A state championships, with big finishes in the 400-meter freestyle relay, the 500-meter freestyle and the 100-meter breaststroke.

Bainbridge came in sixth in the first race of the day, the 200-yard medley relay.

The team of Sam Alpaugh, CJ Waite, James Bullock and Parker Bushey finished in 1:43.78, which beat the state qualifying time of 1:44.50 for the 3A state championship meet.

Alpaugh qualified for state in the 500 free. He finished seventh in 4:59.30. A bit in front was teammate James Bullock, who was fifth in 4:57.81. The state qualifying time is 4:58.50.

CJ Waite punched his ticket to state in the 100 breaststroke. He claimed second place in 1:00.65. The state mark is 1:03.10.
