BAINBRIDGE – Bainbridge saddled the Rough Riders with a 19-12 loss in girls lacrosse in a long game against Roosevelt that was more fierce and hard fought than the statistics might indicate.

Bainbridge is now 8-0, and leads the league in standings following last Friday’s Metro battle.

Bainbridge lost its top scorer, midfielder Mackenzie Chapman to injury, but the team can turn to several Spartans who score well under pressure.

In Friday’s game it was Robin Hilderman, who led the Spartans with five goals, one assist and eight draws. Sophia Hagstromer had three goals and four assists, while Sonia Olson added four goals apiece.

Fellow Spartans Amy Willerford, Kiera Havill and Karsen Sahleen fired in two goals each and Willerford had an assist. Maggie Sweeney contributed one goal and had five draw controls.

The game tested the BHS offense and defense.

Both Hannah Maroni and Kiera Havill had three caused turnovers and three ground balls each while Maggie Sweeney had two caused turnovers in a game again marked by multiple changes in possession by both teams, although Bainbridge led the draws 21 to Roosevelt’s 12.

Bainbridge’s freshman goalie Thuy Lan Ortiz finished with seven saves.
