PUYALLUP – The Bainbridge High School boys varsity water polo team won two of their three matches during the recent Emerald Ridge Jamboree at Rogers High School in Puyallup.

The team played two quarters each against three opponents. The annual season kickoff event is designed to be a kind of measuring stick for players and coaches, as well as a chance to check out the competition in action.

First, BHS won 6-4 against their host, Rogers.

In the second match of the day, they annihilated Mark Morris 12-0.

The Spartans were, however, shut out by Roosevelt High 8-0 in the day’s final match-up.

“They started the first game a little slow but then played smart team ball the second two games,” said BHS Head Coach Jacob Millican.

“Even though we were shut out by Roosevelt, they were third place last year at state and we held them to the fewest points in a game at the Jamboree,” he said. “Driver Jem Bullock and 2M Mathias Patten — both Juniors — led the offense with 13 of our 18 goals between them.”

“Sophomore Jack Kapel led the defense with 10 steals and freshman Will Thompson played the critical 2MD position with poise and shut down the 2M offense in the first two games,” Millican added.

The Spartans play their first home match of the season at 4:45 p.m. Monday, Sept. 15 at the Aquatics Center.
