CENTRALIA – The Bainbridge High varsity cheer squad attended a Universal Cheerleaders Association camp at Great Wolf Lodge and left the judges impressed.

Spartan Coach Tawnya Jackson said the squad exceeded her expectations. The Spartans won “Most Improved,” “Best Jumps” and “Best Representation of Home Town.”

Jackson also noted that the staff at the Great Wolf Lodge also voted on the one squad that they felt represented a home town in a positive way (respect, kind, helpful).

“The staff at Great Wolf Lodge said that the Bainbridge Island cheerleaders are amazing role models and represent Bainbridge in the most positive way. We should all be very proud of them,” Jackson said.

The squad also received “Spirit Sticks” each day and the top Spirit award “The Banana” for their enthusiasm and spirit.

Max Thomas and Jack O’Neil made the “All American” cheerleader. They had to do a jump, stunt and cheer in front of the staff and cheerleaders. The pair are among 500 High School cheerleaders that have been invited to participate in the London New Year’s Day Parade, and the duo were also asked to try out to be instructors next summer.

All-Americans are selected based on superior cheerleading skills at camps across the country, and Jackson noted that only 12 percent who try out are selected.

O’Neil was also awarded the “Pin it forward” award, which is given by a UCA staff member who chooses one camper who demonstrates leadership, spirit and is a role model.
