The Americana rock group The Band of Heathens will perform at the Treehouse Cafe in downtown Lynwood Thursday, Sept. 18.

Originally from Austin, Texas, the band’s special stop on Bainbridge Island is just one performance on their “Carry Your Love” tour, which began in Arizona.

Taking their inspiration from classic American rock groups like Drive-By Truckers and the Allman Brothers, BOH’s style blends classic rock, folk, country and soul music together.

“Carry Your Love,” the group’s new single, reportedly came together while the band was spending some down time in a cabin out on the California coast near Big Sur.

“We really wanted to capture the vibe of an endless summer type of rock and roll song,” said Ed Jurdi, lead singer and one of the founders of the band.  “I think the song evokes that joy that comes with being wild and free in the summertime, but also has a wistful sentiment where you know it can’t last forever.”

“We got a bunch of the song written out there and when we got to the chorus we were trying to think about what we wanted to do,” said fellow group founder Gordy Quist. “We were thinking back to Halloween of last year when we had a show in Nashville and we started the show by playing Tom Petty’s ‘Damn the Torpedoes’ record from start to finish.  So, when we got to the chorus of ‘Carry Your Love’ we thought, ‘Man, what would Tom Petty do here?’  So I think this song kind of ended up being a little inspired by Tom Petty, hopefully in a good way.”

Tickets for this special 21-and-over, one-night-only performance are on sale now, the cost is $25.

The Wall Street Journal’s Jim Fusilli called theirs the best set at South By Southwest 2009 festival. The Dallas Morning News called them “a must-see show.”
