Sonya Anne Christopherson

October 29, 1933 – March 5, 2025

Sonya Anne Christopherson, 91, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2025, in Thorp, Wisconsin. Born on October 29, 1933, in Seattle, Washington, Sonya graduated from North Kitsap High School in 1951. She dedicated much of her life to serving others through her work and faith. For 21 years, she worked as an assistant cook for the Bainbridge Island School District, retiring on June 4, 1999. In addition to her service in the school district, Sonya spent nearly two decades as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Messager House, where she cared for disabled adults with compassion and dignity until the facility’s closure in 2018. She was a life-long resident of Bainbridge Island until moving to Wisconsin to live with her daughter and son-inlaw in 2019. A devoted mother of four, Sonya embraced family life with unwavering love and selflessness. Her home was often filled with the comforting aroma of her exceptional cooking—her Swedish pancakes were especially cherished by those who knew her. She found joy in simple pleasures like Friday night movies and popcorn shared with family and friends; musicals were always her favorite. Sonya’s deep faith was a guiding light throughout her life. As a child and into adulthood, she nurtured a passion for music that found expression in the Bethany Lutheran Church choir. Her children were baptized and confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church. Later in life, she became a member of New Covenant Church in Poulsbo, Washington, under the pastoral care of Bob Smith. In her later years, reading the Bible brought her great comfort and spiritual peace. As a big sister to Leigh Melson, Sonya offered steadfast love and guidance that helped shape their enduring bond. Her warmth and infectious laughter left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her. She is lovingly remembered by her children: Denise Christopherson; Bill Christopherson (Jo); Lynn Brunner (Robert); and Dean Christopherson (Julia). Her legacy continues through her grandchildren: Wesley Brunner (Katie), Inga Bardon (Matt), Andrea Christopherson, Rachel Christopherson, Selena Christopherson, and Hannah Christopherson; great-grandchildren: Naomi and Ezra Brunner; Hugo, Augustine, and Henry Bardon; and Cassius Cruz. She is also survived by hersister Leigh Melson (John); nephew Jason Melson (Kelly); as well as step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. Sonya was preceded in death by her parents Dorothy Cavaness (Joe) and William Wells (Alita); parents-in-law Henry Christopherson (Mae); husband Donald Christopherson; brother-in-law Larry Christopherson (Lynn); and stepdaughters Sandra Chew and Bobbie Miller.
