The Bainbridge Island Rowing team had a standout performance at the Pacific Northwest Regional Championships May 28 in Vancouver, including sending one team to nationals.
Many BIR crews reached the A Finals, landing top-five finishes in multiple events, per a news release. The BI U19 women’s 4x team took first place in their race, earning a spot at the Nationals Tournament in Sarasota, FL June 12-15.
The 4x team consists of high schoolers Addie Carleton, Alita Kakutani, Paige Murphy, and Dolly Courtway. Some of the girls will miss their high school graduation ceremony since nationals take place at that time.
BI Rowing itself has close to 100 athletes, making rowing one of the largest sports representing Bainbridge High School, the release says. While it is not an official school sport, rowers still receive a varsity letter.
