Woman insults officers’ prowess while arrested for DUI

A woman's uncooperative behavior turned from kicking the back seat of a patrol car to insulting officers' romantic abilities.

A woman getting arrested for possible DUI used the opportunity to give Bainbridge Island police officers unsolicited advice on their love lives.

The odd incident became even stranger after the Bainbridge woman was taken to the police station for booking, when she contrasted the sexual prowess of police against firefighters, and then proceeded to do a strip-tease dance after being asked to take a breathalyzer test.

The incident started at 1:11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, after island police officers took notice of a driver on Ferncliff Avenue as it failed to signal for a turn.

The driver was also traveling well below the speed limit, and the car did not have its headlights on at first but the driver turned them on after officers pulled up behind.

Officers noted the driver may have noticed them following her, and responded by pulling onto a residential street to park. But police waited as the car quickly turned around and proceeded on its way.

Officers pulled over the driver on High School Road for driving suspiciously.

Police could smell alcohol on the woman driving the vehicle when they spoke with her. She had difficulty understanding what officers wanted when they asked for her license and registration. She finally handed them an old bill thinking it was her registration.

When asked about her drinking, the woman said that she had not consumed any alcohol that night.

Officers then asked three times if she would take a breath test and she didn’t answer.

Finally, she said, “I’m good,” and said she was close to her home.

Despite officers asking her to stay put, the woman kept getting out of the car to ask, “Are we done yet?”

Officers then asked the woman to take roadside sobriety tests.

According to police reports, the woman did not complete them well and did a “terrible” job reciting the alphabet. The woman tried to sing the alphabet, but in the wrong order saying “L, M, N, O, P, Q, P, F, R, V, BAM!”

It was determined that the woman was too intoxicated to drive, and she was arrested for DUI.

She wouldn’t go easily, though. The woman resisted as officers placed handcuffs on her and spoke over them as they read her Miranda rights.

After being placed in the patrol car, the woman refused to wear a seat belt. She then insisted that she needed to get her purse and her gun.

Officers retrieved her purse but found no gun. While en route to the police station, the woman got angry and began kicking the cage and the bars that cover the windows in the back seat of the patrol car.

She then screamed at the top of her lungs, and cursed and insulted the officer.

According to police reports, the woman threatened police with a lawsuit and made comments regarding how often, or how rare, the officer was successful with the ladies.

Her uncooperative behavior, and insults to officers’ sexual prowess, continued at the station when officers tried to take a breath test.

When asked to open her mouth for the breath test, she insinuated that they were going to stick something else, rather inappropriate, in her mouth other than the breathalyzer device.

Instead of taking the test, she continued to comment on an officer’s lack of success with women and further said that fireman have sex more often than police officers. She then volunteered the information that she personally had such relations with a “hot fireman” the previous week.

Her erratic behavior continued while being booked into jail. The woman started “gyrating” and doing a “striptease” when a corrections officer asked her to take her sweater off.

She was booked on $20,000 bail for DUI.

The bail was based on the fact that the woman said she might move out of state and an admission to a prior arrest for DUI in Martha’s Vineyard.
