Tran, Foley earn distinction as Bainbridge Island’s Firefighters of the Year

The Bainbridge Island Fire Department has announced its Firefighters of the Year for 2012.

The Bainbridge Island Fire Department has announced its Firefighters of the Year for 2012.

The award is presented to both a volunteer and career member by their peers to recognize their outstanding contributions to the department and the Bainbridge Island community.

Tien Tran has earned the honor of 2012 Volunteer Member.

Tran has contributed more than 5,300 hours since he became a member in 2009. Department officials said he is also known for his positive attitude, and his willingness to learn and accept new challenges have made him an asset to the department and the community.

Josh Foley was named the 2012 Career Member.

Foley has been instrumental in the training of firefighters in water safety. He was hired in 2009 and has consistently impressed his peers with his leadership and work ethic, department officials said.

Each recipient received an individual award and will also have their names engraved on the perpetual Member of the Year plaque.

A total 21 different members were nominated in 2012 for recognition.
