The Kitsap County Elections Division has counted more than 7,400 ballots from Bainbridge Island in the first vote tally for Tuesday’s Special Election.

Island voters approved two levies supporting Bainbridge public schools during the Feb. 11 election. Both three-year property tax increases passed by landslide margins.

According to the county’s elections division, a total of 7,403 ballots have been counted for Proposition 1, the Educational Programs and Operations Levy for the Bainbridge Island School District.

Prop. 1 — which will help pay the costs of teaching and classified staff, operating costs, special education programs and other basic education areas — was approved with more than 75 percent of the vote. Approximately 24 percent of island voters voted against the levy.

Proposition 2, the Technology Levy, was given an enthusiastic thumbs up from voters, with 71 percent for and 28 percent against. A total of 7,396 ballots were counted Election Night.

Kitsap County has an estimated 4,000 ballots in hand yet to count from across the county.

Every other school levy on Tuesday’s ballot in Kitsap was also approved.

Bremerton’s school support levy was ahead 61 percent to 38 percent in the initial vote tally.

The operations levy for North Kitsap schools was approved, 63 percent to 36 percent.

Central Kitsap voters were also giving approval to a maintenance and operations levy, 57 percent to 42 percent.

Only one proposal on ballots for some voters in Kitsap County was falling to defeat on Election Night.

The proposed expansion of the Port of Poulsbo was facing a lopsided loss, and was rejected by voters, 74 percent to 25 percent.

According to the Kitsap County Elections Division, the next vote tally is scheduled for 5 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12.
