The former Bainbridge Island School Board director arrested for allegedly driving while intoxicated and hit-and-run was granted another continuance in Bainbridge Island Municipal Court this week.

John Tawresey, 69, was scheduled to be in court Monday morning, but was granted a continuance of his case due to a death in the family. His appearance has been rescheduled for July 2.

Tawresey was arrested Feb. 29 after he allegedly struck two parked vehicles while driving intoxicated. The incident occurred in the San Carlos Restaurant’s parking lot on Madison Avenue.

At the time of the incident, Tawresey was a member of the Bainbridge Island School Board, resigned from the position soon after his arrest.

Tawresey was previously granted another continuance due to a scheduling conflict with his lawyer, Paul Cullen.

Since the initial court hearing in early March, he has been to court once, in April, when he was granted permission to remove an ignition interlock device from his vehicle. He had completed an informational course on drugs and alcohol by that time.

In an earlier court filing, Cullen asked for a jury trial.

Cullen also told the court he wanted any tape or video recordings made of Tawresey in connection with his arrest, as well as 911 tapes, radio calls and other records and documents.
