The last votes cast in the 2013 General Election are continuing to trend toward the leaders in the races for the Bainbridge Island City Council.

The Kitsap County Elections Division released a new vote tally late Thursday, and the winning margins continue to grow for council candidates Wayne Roth, Val Tollefson and Roger Townsend.

In Thursday’s tally, the overall percentage of the vote for the trio has again increased.

That follows their initial lead on Election Night, and the first bump up in their vote totals in Wednesday’s tally.

In the South Ward, Townsend continues to lead in the race with a greater-than-landslide percentage of the vote over his opponent, Dee McComb.

With an additional 1,904 votes counted in the race Thursday, Townsend is now in front with 69.6 percent of the vote to McComb’s 30.3 percent.

Townsend’s advantage is up from 68.4 percent Wednesday, and 67.6 percent on Election Day.

More than 3,000 additional votes have been counted in the race since Election Night.

In total votes cast, Townsend has 5,676 votes to 2,471 for McComb.

The South Ward, Position 3 race featured two newcomers to city politics. Both Townsend and McComb have never served in elected office.

Councilwoman Kirsten Hytopoulos, who currently serves in Position 3, decided not to run for re-election.

The Central Ward race also did not feature an incumbent, as Councilwoman Debbi Lester did not seek to retain her Position 5 seat.

Roth continues to lead in the Position 5 race by a commanding margin, with 62.8 percent of the vote over fellow candidate Arlene Buetow, who has 37.1 percent of the vote in Thursday’s tally.

An additional 1,923 votes were counted in the Central Ward race on Thursday.

Roth’s total vote count has increased for the second time since Election Day, with his lead growing to 62.8 percent from 61.9 percent in Wednesday’s count. On Election Night, he led by 61.4 percent.

In total votes cast, Roth now leads 5,143-3,042.

In the North Ward race, an additional 1,979 votes were tabulated Thursday.

Tollefson now leads opponent Richard “Dick” Haugan with 67.2 percent of the vote, up from 66.4 percent in Wednesday’s count and 66.1 percent on Election Day.

Haugan has 32.7 percent of the vote in the latest tally, a slight drop from the 33.8 percent he had on Election Night.

Tollefson now has 5,671 votes overall, and Haugan has 2,755.

The North Ward race also featured two candidates taking their first shot at elected office.

Incumbent Councilman Bob Scales did not seek re-election to the Position 7 seat.
