Dettmer’s lead grows by 59 votes in Bainbridge fire board race

Theresa "Teri" Dettmer continues to be the front-runner in Bainbridge's closest election this November.

Theresa “Teri” Dettmer continues to be the front-runner in Bainbridge’s closest election this November.

Dettmer remains in front in the contest for Position 5 on the board of commissioners for the Bainbridge Island Fire Department.

A new vote tally in the race was released late Thursday, and Dettmer continues to hold the edge over her opponent Holly vanSchaick.

Dettmer currently has 51.7 percent of the vote, while vanSchaick has 48.1 percent.

Dettmer is ahead by 230 votes after she picked up another 59 votes in the Thursday count.

Her lead has slowly grown since the first count on Tuesday. She led by 88 votes on Election Day, and by 171 votes in Wednesday’s tally.

The latest vote tally is 3,269-2,039.

A total of 6,323 votes have been counted in the race. There were 15 write-in votes cast.
