Kitsap Audubon bestows scholarships

Kyle Leader, a senior at Bainbridge High, has been awarded a scholarship from the Kitsap Audubon Society.

Leader was one of seven graduating seniors from high schools in Kitsap County to get a total of $5,000 in scholarships in 2013. The scholarships are awarded to outstanding students who intend to pursue academic degrees in environmental studies or related sciences, in keeping with Kitsap Audubon’s mission “to preserve the natural world through education, environmental study and habitat protection.”

Award certificates were presented to the scholarship winners by scholarship chairwoman Sandra Bullock during the May 9 meeting of Kitsap Audubon at the Poulsbo Library.

Other scholarship winners were Chad Matchell of Poulsbo (Central Kitsap High), Allison Vargas of Port Orchard (South Kitsap High), Darby Womack of Port Orchard (South Kitsap High), Carolyn Hartman of Bremerton (Bremerton High), Heidi Johnson of Poulsbo (North Kitsap High) and Lydia Leach of Suquamish, (North Kitsap High).
