Bainbridge shook off a 9-3 loss to Interlake last week to top Mount Si and sink Mercer Island in girls fastpitch softball.

The wins propelled the Spartans into the state 3A tournament.

Bainbridge strung together back-to-back must wins in the Sea-King 3A District Tournament at Lower Woodland Park in Seattle to advance to the state playoffs.

The Spartans needed a come-from-behind win against the Wildcats, and they got it.

Mount Si took a 2-0 lead after the first inning.

Bainbridge answered with a one-run second, but the Wildcats pushed ahead 4-1 in the top of the third.

The Spartans matched Mount Si with two runs in the bottom of the third, and got the tying run in the seventh.

In the extra inning eighth, Bainbridge scored again to escape with the victory.

Natalie Allen and the Kinney sisters paced the Bainbridge offense.

Allen went 2-for-3 at the plate and had a double.

Both Kate and Erin Kinney finished with 3-of-4 batting and a double apiece.

Mount Si was led by Lauren Smith, who went 2-for-4 at the plate with a double and an RBI.

In the winner-to-state game against Mercer Island, the Spartans again faced a first-inning deficit as the Islanders led 2-0.

Bainbridge cut the Mercer Island lead in half with a run in the second, then started to tear the game open with a third-inning lead.

The Spartans got a total-team effort on offense.

Emily Schneider was perfect at the plate; 4-for-4, with two RBIs.

Fellow Spartan Natalie Allen finished with 2-for-4 batting and an RBI.

Erin Kinney went 2-for-4 with a double, and Kate Kinney was 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Katie Raben was also outstanding at the plate. She wen 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

The Spartans are scheduled to play Friday against University Prep on the first day of the state playoffs. The tournament is at the Regional Athletic Complex in Lacey.

Game time is 9 a.m.

The winner will play the winner of the Bishop Blanchet-Peninsula matchup at 4 p.m. The loser will play the loser of the Bishop Blanchet-Peninsula game at 2 p.m.
