A 41-year-old Indianola woman has been charged with driving under the influence and hit-and-run after she allegedly fled from a minor accident in a Bainbridge Island parking lot Monday night.

Police arrested Molly Dian Keller at the Shell station in Suquamish after following her 1999 GMC Yukon on Highway 305 across the north end of Bainbridge.

According to a witness report filed in the case, a Bainbridge Island woman was driving through the Rite Aid parking lot in the Island Village Shopping Center just before 8 p.m. Oct. 28 when the driver in the Yukon began to turn but suddenly braked and put the vehicle in reverse.

The Bainbridge woman “slammed on the horn” but said the driver ignored her and continued to back up until the Yukon struck the woman’s car on the rear driver’s side bumper.

The woman honked again in an attempt to get the other driver’s attention, but the driver continued on and drove out of the parking lot and onto High School Road.

The Bainbridge driver followed, waiting for the Yukon driver to pull over so they could exchange information.

The Yukon driver put on a turn signal but drove past the McDonald’s and continued on to Ferncliff Avenue, where the driver took a right and drove south to the Bainbridge ferry parking lot.

The Bainbridge driver continued to follow the Yukon, and honked her horn and flashed her lights at they entered the taxi loading area.

The Yukon driver quickly pulled out of the parking lot, and then sped away on Ferncliff Avenue at a speed between 50 to 75 mph, the witness said. The witness also said the other driver appeared to turn off her headlights as she turned onto High School Road.

A Bainbridge officer found the Yukon heading north on Highway 305, and saw the driver cross the centerline at Agatewood Road, Reitan Road and Suquamish Way.

Once the driver stopped, an officer noticed Keller smelled of alcohol and had glassy and red eyes. She was also argumentative, according to a police report, and said she hadn’t been drinking.

Keller later allegedly admitted to consuming alcohol earlier in the day.

After she failed roadside sobriety tests, Keller told an officer she had consumed three beers.

Tests conducted at the Suquamish Police Department reported breath alcohol content results of .118 and .104.

Keller was booked into the Kitsap County Jail for DUI and hit-and-run, and bail was set at $15,000.

She was charged with DUI and hit-and-run Tuesday, Oct. 29 in Kitsap County District Court.
