Gelarto expands offerings with seasonal specials

You can now curb your beer craving with Space Needle IPA gelato.

Gelarto, the popular downtown Winslow gelato shop, will now offer a wider array of flavors than ever before, as well as new treats including cookies, macaroons and special-order gelato cakes, courtesy of their recently-added second supplier Gelatiamo, a Seattle-based Italian cafe.

Owners Fareed and Jennifer Al-Abboud said that the addition of new, fresh flavors is a response to their many regular customers who were seeking something a bit more adventurous, though they will continue to carry their beloved staple flavors from D’Ambrosio Gelato as well.

“We have carefully selected a variety of rotating flavors to complement our existing lineup,” Jennifer Al-Abboud said. “In addition, we will offer special seasonal flavors, as well as Baci di Dama cookie, macaroon, and biscotti gift packs and special-order gelato cakes.”

Some of the new gelato flavors are chocolate sorbet, Space Needle IPA, honey lavender, cookies and cream and the owners’ personal favorite, Gelatiamo’s popular rice gelato.

Expanding the store’s offerings to include a second supplier is a move toward the shop’s ultimate goal to stock a kind of “best of” locally-made gelato, Fareed Al-Abboud said.

Devoted regulars can still get their favorites, and those seeking something new can anticipate rotating new flavors.

“For the holidays, you can look forward to authentic Panettone bread made fresh in the Gelatiamo kitchen and passed down from the Coassin Family’s 200-year-old bakery in Maniago, Italy,” Jennifer Al-Abboud added. “[Founder] Maria [Coassin’s] Italian roots run deep, and we are moved by her commitment to quality. So we invite you to catch her contagious passion for rich Italian tradition and the authenticity she is respected for.”
