A tribute to George Floyd, the man killed by Minneapolis police on May 25, was held in downtown Winslow June 6, organized by Bainbridge Youth Activists.
It was the second large demonstration on Bainbridge last week, following a gathering of hundreds on Thursday, June 4.
“They organized speakers, the police department will have one speaker, along with some teachers and community members,” said Bainbridge High School teacher Brad Lewis.
Participants marched from downtown to the Bainbridge High School campus bearing signs and chanting.
“[It’s] not only for justice and equality, but also to send a message to these students that we see them, hear them, and support them,” Lewis explained. “They have had a tough few months, so has our country and specifically some minority communities have been hit even harder than ours.”
