Legal pot will soon take root on Bainbridge Island.

A proposed marijuana growing and processing business on Bainbridge Island has gotten approval for its site plan from the city, Bainbridge City Manager Doug Schulze told the city council at its meeting Tuesday.

“With this approval the business is expected to open soon,” Schulze said.

Way Kool, Inc. filed for an application for a growing and processing marijuana business in the industrial park at 8040 NE Day Road. The company filed its application with the state for the operation on Dec. 1.

The city is still reviewing the company’s application for a business license. City officials expect the approval of a state license to come soon.
