A 38-year-old Bremerton man was jailed for second-degree assault after he allegedly struck a worker at a Bainbridge auto repair shop with his car while he was trying to drive off with stolen radiators and scrap metal.

Shane Patrick Dallas was charged with a felony count of assault Monday in Kitsap County District Court.

Dallas was arrested by Bremerton police Friday, Sept. 11 after one of his co-workers at Jerry’s Auto Rebuild said Dallas had loaded scrap metal and radiators into his convertible 1994 Mercedes-Benz SL500 while it was in the garage at the business on Miller Road.

After seeing Dallas allegedly put the items into his car — the top was down on the convertible — his fellow employee called the owners of the business, who said Dallas didn’t have permission to take the scrap metal and radiators.

The employee got behind the man’s vehicle and confronted him as he tried to leave. The worker said he had called the owners and told Dallas he couldn’t take the items, and Dallas allegedly called him a “snitch” and continued to back out of the garage. He then hit his fellow worker in the knee/lower thigh area and pushed him out of the way.

Police later reviewed a video of the incident, and Bremerton police went to the man’s home in the Navy Yard City area of Bremerton and saw his vehicle, still loaded with the radiators, in his driveway.

Dallas denied stealing the items and said he had permission from the owners of the business to take the items. He also denied calling his 23-year-old co-worker a snitch.

An officer contacted one of the owners of the business, however, who said the man did not have permission to take the items and noted that the business has a company that comes to get scrap from the repair shop.

Dallas was arrested for robbery, theft and assault. He was booked into Kitsap County Jail late Friday, Sept. 11 and bail was set at $7,500.

Conviction of second-degree assault can result in a maximum 10-year prison sentence and $20,000 fine.
