BHS principal: Counselors ready to help students after reports of BHS student arrested for murder

Bainbridge High Principal Duane Fish is telling families of students who attend BHS that the school has staff and counselors ready to help following the arrest Friday of an 18-year-old Bainbridge student for the alleged murder of a 71-year-old Sequim woman.

Fish sent an email to parents and staff just before noon Friday to offer assistance.

The letter said:

Dear BHS Families,

We want you to be aware of a serious incident involving one of our BHS students.

Yesterday, an 18 year-old BHS student was arrested for murder. The victim was a 71-year old woman in Sequim, WA. News of this is in the media and is quickly spreading around the BHS campus. Students may need help in processing this news. Please be prepared to support and listen to your student. In addition to our administrative staff and BHS counselors, a team from Olympic Educational Services District as well as Bainbridge Youth Services (BYS) are available for students to drop-in today (as well as next week). Students are encouraged to seek assistance if needed. For your reference, BYS can be contacted by stopping by its office in the 100 building, by calling 206-842-9675 or via its website.

When tragic events happen, I am reminded of what a supportive and caring community we have at BHS. Thank you for all you do to support our staff and our students.

Sincerely,

Duane Fish

BHS Principal
