Bainbridge’s climate change committee to hold first meeting

The new members of the city’s Climate Change Advisory Committee will hold their first meeting on Monday, Aug. 7.

The committee was established by the city council earlier this year, and the council has appointed nine members to the advisory group: Michael Cox, Lara Hansen, Derik Broekhoff, Gary Lagerloef, James Rufo-Hill, Deborah Rudnick, Jane Silberstein, David McCaughey and Nora Ferm Nickum.

Councilman Kol Medina will serve as the council’s liaison to the committee.

The group has been asked to review the city’s climate change policies in Bainbridge’s comprehensive plan, the land-use planning document that will guide growth and development on the island over the next two decades.

The committee will also give advice to city officials on issues related to climate change as directed by the city council.

As part of its work, the committee will also offer input on completing a baseline island-wide greenhouse gas inventory for the city and give advice on greenhouse gas emission reduction targets.

Additionally, the group will help prepare the city’s climate action plan and implementation strategy.

The time and location of the committee’s first meeting have not yet been announced.
