Bainbridge parks board votes to install Cox as new commissioner

Kristine Cox has been selected to fill the vacancy on the board of commissioners for the Bainbridge Island Metropolitan Park & Recreation District.

The park board interviewed four finalists for the seat — Cox, Kate Durand, Karl Fritzsche, and Tom Lindsley — at a special meeting Thursday.

After the interviews, the board voted to name Cox as its new commissioner. She will fill the position vacated by Michael Pollock, who stepped down after he was elected last November to the Bainbridge Island City Council.

Park Commissioner Ken DeWitt said he spoke to Cox Friday morning and she has accepted the appointment.

“She is excited and raring to go,” DeWitt said.

Cox has worked as a swim coach and a fitness instructor, and is a volunteer for the Captain Johnston Blakely Elementary PTO.

She will take the oath of office at the park board meeting Thursday, March 5.
