Bainbridge parks officials are considering changes to the improvement plan for Blakely Harbor Park, including adding amenities for picnickers,  adding restrooms, and installing bridges to span the jetties and Mac’s Creek.

The Bainbridge Island Metro Park & Recreation District will hold a public hearing to discuss potential changes to the Blakely Harbor Park plan, adopted in 2001, at a meeting later this week.

The meeting is 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 12 at Strawberry Hill Center.

The board for the park district is not expected to approve the plan this week, but is looking for public input on suggested changes to the plan.

According to the park district, changes to the revised plan include:

Barrier-free trail access;

A bridge spanning the jetties;

A new bridge that would cross Mac’s Creek;

New restroom facilities;

Work to enhance overlook areas and picnic amenities; and

Options for the Generator Building.

Park staff will also give an update on vegetation enhancements that are already underway at Blakely Harbor Park.
