The city of Bainbridge Island has extended the deadline for project proposals that promote tourism on the island to Wednesday, Dec. 4.

Earlier this year, the Bainbridge Island City Council approved a funding range from $2,000 to $50,000 for an individual award under the Lodging Tax Advisory Committee’s 2014 funding cycle. Subsequently, the city began requesting proposals for projects that promote tourism in early November.

According to the city’s request for proposals, the fund is “to encourage innovative projects of all sizes that recognize and promote the exciting — and expanding — tourism trends and opportunities happening on Bainbridge Island.”

The funds must be used to either create new tourism promotion programs or expand and enhance existing programs. They cannot be used to replace current funding for existing programs.

The Lodging Tax Advisory Committee will be evaluating each proposal for projects that encourage tourism from visitors traveling more than 50 miles away and from visitors outside Washington.

The committee will also look for proposals that demonstrate potential partnerships with other organizations and businesses on Bainbridge Island to encourage cooperative tourism marketing.

The city will be accepting proposals until 4 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4.
