An 18-year-old Bainbridge Island man was charged with residential burglary in Kitsap County District Court after allegedly breaking into a Poulsbo residence.

Anthony K. Ruchirat-Bohannon was taken into custody on Dec. 2 after authorities found him in possession of a stolen laptop and other items just 45 minutes after a resident reported a burglary.

Ruchirat-Bohannon is also believed to be involved in a series of other incidents where homes were damaged.

The resident told officers she was asleep at around 3 a.m. Dec. 2 when the sudden sound of broken glass woke her up. She saw that her laptop computer was missing and ran to a neighbor’s house to call 911.

Upon arrival, police found two panes of glass broken and some computer cords hanging from the window.

Officers searched the area with a canine team and came across Ruchirat-Bohannon riding a bike and wearing a large black backpack.

According to police documents, Ruchirat-Bohannon fit the physical description of a man who was caught on video in an incident that same night where a series of homes were damaged in the area.

When questioned, Ruchirat-Bohannon denied any involvement with the earlier incidents and said that he had just left a friend’s house.

He admitted that there was a laptop computer in his backpack, but that “a guy just gave it to him.”

He also denied owning the backpack.

When asked how he knew there was a laptop in the bag if he had just been given the backpack, he said he would not answer any more questions.

A woman who witnessed the earlier incidents identified Ruchirat-Bohannon as a suspect.

Officers checked the backpack and found the laptop that had been stolen just 45 minutes earlier, as well as an additional HP laptop computer, digital camera, jewelry, a silver coin, a new in-the-box blue ray DVD player, and several other small items.

Ruchirat-Bohannon was also wearing a Mitchell & Ness-brand baseball cap that matched a Mitchell & Nes- brand hat stay found inside the residence where the laptop was stolen.

Police believe that Ruchirat-Bohannon had to reach inside the window so far that his hat was knocked off and the cardboard stay fell out.

Ruchirat-Bohannon was booked into jail Dec. 2 for a single felony count of residential burglary and bail has been set at $100,000.
