The Bainbridge Island Historical Museum is hosting a lively evening celebrating the history of Winslow on Saturday, Aug. 24.

Islanders and their friends are invited to enjoy an evening of music, food and tales of the old-timers accompanied by historic photos. The program will be of special interest to the current and past merchants of Winslow as they view the changes beginning in the 1880s when Winslow was known as Madrone and was dwarfed by the towns at Port Madison and Port Blakely.

The museum fundraiser will gather under a 40-foot-by-80-foot “Big Tent” on the Winslow Green at the corner of Winslow Way and Madison Avenue, the site of two early elementary schools and later the annual Island carnival.

The evening will begin with music by the Ann Pell Trio. Tari Laes and Leroy “Pinky” McNulty will be masters of ceremony with old-timer Bud Lundgren narrating the history of Winslow. Long-time Islanders will share their stories illustrated by photos from the vast Historical Museum collection.

“Time and Tides” will also provide musical entertainment, and the event runs from 6:30 to 10 p.m.

Tickets include hearty appetizers and desserts from Bainbridge Bakers as well as beer, wine and soft drinks.

In 2011 the museum held a similar event “Historic Lynwood Lives and Lies” at the Tree House at Lynwood Center which proved very popular and successful. The Winslow event will appeal to long-time Islanders as well as those who have just arrived.
