Women’s retreat planned for September

Journey For Purpose will host its first Women’s Empowerment Retreat at Sacred Groves Forest Sanctuary on Bainbridge Island on Sept. 28-30.

For four summers, Maria Cook and Spring Courtright, the owners and operators of the Bainbridge Island-based company, have lead small groups of women on a unique adventure: women’s transformational kayak journeys. Women of ages 19 to 75 have come from around the United States for these three-day, two-night kayak trips.

The women kayak from Bainbridge Island to Blake Island, where they camp, do yoga, cook and share together.

Organizers said the trips give women a safe place to gather, as well as a relaxed setting to share an outdoor adventure that includes talk of personal goals, dreams, fears and inspiration.

Positive feedback by participants has prompted Cook and Courtright to start their first local, land-based Women’s Empowerment Retreat, which will include organic and local meals, yoga, guided discussions and activities.
