The city of Bainbridge Island is currently accepting liveaboard applications for one-year subleases for the open water marina community.
Leases will begin on Jan. 1, 2017 and expire on Dec. 31, 2017.
The city operates a residential marina within Eagle Harbor under the terms of a lease with the Washington State Department of Natural Resources. The DNR lease allows the city to enter into subleases with a limited number of individual tenants in the open water marina for the purpose of supporting a vibrant liveaboard community.
Limited spaces are currently available for both the linear moorage system and fore-and-aft moorage.
To apply, potential tenants must submit the application form available on the city website (www.bainbridgewa.gov/DocumentCenter/View/4132).
The application must be completed in its entirety and received by city officials no later than 4 p.m. Monday, Nov. 14. Applications can be submitted to Harbormaster Tami Allen (tallen@bainbridgewa.gov), or hand delivered or mailed to city hall (280 N. Madison Ave., Bainbridge Island, WA 98110).
All applicants accepted must be willing to agree to comply with all requirements of the tenant sublease, including sewage and garbage management requirements. A copy of the current policies and requirements is available at the harbormaster’s office, through the Bainbridge Island Police Department, at the city hall front desk, and via the city’s website.
In the event that there are more eligible applicants for a type of moorage than can be accommodated, the city will use a random selection process to identify applicants to receive subleases. Other eligible applicants will remain on a waiting list in the event that additional subleases become available.
Further stipulations include:
As part of the application process, applicant’s signatures and dates of birth allow the city to conduct a background check, which is required for all potential tenants;
Permitted watercraft include vessels designed for navigation on open waters, which meet Coast Guard requirements and are capable of being used as a means of transportation (i.e. houseboats are not allowed); and
Subleases will begin on Jan. 1 and rent charges will be due from that date forward. The first month’s rent will be due in advance at the time the sublease is signed. Future payments will be due monthly.
