Water, water, everywhere? Well, it’s not in ample quantity along Rockaway Beach, and that’s a problem.

The city of Bainbridge Island is asking residents who rely on the Rockaway Beach water system to voluntarily conserve water. Officials said the water system has been stressed with the ongoing period of hot weather, and the system is dealing with unusually high water consumption.

The high consumption of water is stressing the well that serves approximately 90 homes in the Rockaway Beach area, city officials said.

The city is asking residents in the area to voluntarily cut back on landscape irrigation as a way to help protect the water system and also be good stewards of water resources.

Rockaway Beach residents will also be receiving a phone call from city staff encouraging them to voluntarily limit watering their yards.

The city noted that the Rockaway Beach water system is served by a single well with limited capacity, so during periods of heavy demand, the system can be stretched to capacity.

City officials said no other areas of the city water system have been affected by water issues caused by the extended period of hot weather.
