Island matters

To the editor:

A couple of island issues have come to mind:

1. In light of new additions of 4 way stops, and if it’s been several decades since you took your drivers test, perhaps a quick review of how to negotiate a 4 way stop is in order: 1. If you arrive first, you go first; then the driver who arrives second goes second, etc. 2. If you arrive at the same time as another driver, the person to your right goes first, (or saying it another way: if you’re to the left of someone arriving at the same time, (lucky) you go first!). Sitting and waiting for others rather than taking your turn in order simply gums up the works, and can make people late for work, a yoga class, or the next boat…….

2. If you love our island pretty much as it is, enjoy water available for you faucets, support population growth and development as required (perhaps) by state mandate—but not more so— and hope City Council has you in mind, please pay attention to how City Council is handling such matters. A shout out to Councilwoman Kirsten Hytopolous for being the only courageous no vote at its July 22 meeting. Consider carefully who you vote for pertaining to these matters.
