Bainbridge blotter | 18, 28 and DUI

Selected reports from the Bainbridge Island Police Department blotter.

Friday, June 5

4:29 p.m. Police were called to Hidden Cove Park on a report of underage drinking.

An officer saw people on the dock at the park; four young men and two women sunbathing.

As the officer approached she was seen and then heard the sound of bottles clinking and one of the young men, who was sitting on top of a blue-and-white cooler with wheels, hid his hands and appeared to be fumbling with something.

The officer determined the young women did not appear to be with the men, so she focused on the group gathered around the cooler.

Police asked to look inside and found 15 bottles of beer or ale and a box of Pinot Grigio wine.

The wine box was one-third full and there were two partially consumed Coronas as well as one empty bottle of Shocktop Shandy.

There were nine unopened Coronas and three more Shocktop-brand beers.

Police determined the party had just started for the four of them, who were all 18 to 19, because none of them appeared impaired or intoxicated.

Police confiscated the beer, which was later taken back to the station and disposed of, and the officer told the youths about the dangers of drunk driving and said they didn’t “want their vehicles to be their coffins and have to tell their parents their child is dead or injured.”

A report of minors in possession of alcohol was forwarded to the prosecutor.
