Bainbridge blotter | Pedestrian hit in Safeway parking lot

Sunday, Feb. 22
8:18 p.m. A 64-year-old Bainbridge woman was hit by a car while walking through the parking lot near Safeway. The woman said she was distracted while she was deciding to go to either the grocery store on Rite Aid.
The driver of the car, a 33-year-old Kingston woman, said she was backing out of a parking stall in her 2008 Toyota but was looking at the truck parked next to her so she wouldn’t hit it. She did not see the pedestrian walking behind her vehicle, but struck her and knocked her to the pavement.
The pedestrian reported pain in her back and left wrist. She was examined by medics, who determined she had no broken bones.
The woman continued on her way to the drug store and then walked home.
Saturday, Feb. 21
11:57 p.m. An impaired driver was reported swerving into the oncoming lane on Highway 305 near North Madison Avenue NE. Police went to the home of the registered owner and found a woman getting out of her vehicle.
She had watery eyes and was swaying. Police asked if she had been drinking and she said she had three drinks. Another officer came and took the woman’s young son and another passenger to her apartment. After field sobriety tests and breath tests that measurements of .179 and .172, the woman was cited for DUI and taken to the county jail for booking.
10:44 p.m. An officer approached a vehicle parked at Rotary Field after seeing a man and woman who appeared to be passing a pipe back and fourth.
The driver was a 20-year-old man and the passenger was an 18-year-old Bainbridge woman. Police found a bong that the couple had been using. The driver was told he would not be allowed to drive the vehicle away, and the teen called her mom to pick them up.
Police told the pair a report would be forwarded to the prosecutor for review of charges.
