The 2015 Chilly Hilly may be a slightly warmer affair this year, with the predicted temperature in the high 50s Sunday, Feb. 22 for the big annual bicycle ride.
The high is expected to be 57 degrees, with an overall condition rating of “cloudy,” according to weather.com.
Bainbridge’s Chilly Hilly has been kicking off the cycling season in the Northwest on the last Sunday in February for the past 43 years.
Named “One of Four Classic Rides” in the nation by Bicycling Magazine, the island tradition is guaranteed to be hilly – even if not that chilly this year – throughout the route’s 2,675 feet of climbing.
The course is open from 8 a.m to 3 p.m.
For riders who are taking the ferry over from Seattle, the ride starts when they get off the ferry.
For riders who are starting on Bainbridge Island, the ride starts at the top of the ferry off-ramp on Winslow Way.
Late registeration will be accepted through Saturday, Feb. 21 in-person only at B.I. Cycle Shop or Classic Cycle in downtown Winslow. The fee for those starting in Winslow (with no ferry ticket) is $23 for adults and children over the age of 13, $10 for those 12 and younger.
