Warkentin wins golf championship

Perennial island youth golf standout Sam Warkentin won the Washington Junior Golf Association State Championship at Gold Mountain Golf Club in Bremerton on Aug. 6.

BREMERTON – Perennial island youth golf standout Sam Warkentin won the Washington Junior Golf Association State Championship at Gold Mountain Golf Club in Bremerton on Aug. 6.

Warkentin shot a 69, 3-under par, on the final day of the tournament, pulling decisively away from the group.

He finished with a total score of 213 (2-under total).

Second place was tied for by Sean Yi, of Auburn, and Christopher Mogg, of Sammamish, who each managed a total 217.

Barely behind them, Kirkland’s Gabe Lysen captured fourth place with 218.

In June, Warkentin was ranked as the No. 2 player in the boys division at the 2015 Pacific Northwest Junior PGA Championship tournament at Lake Spanaway Golf Course in Tacoma.

Gold Mountain is located at 7263 West Belfair Valley Road.
