Fastpitchers lose first game of season to Cougars.

(EDIT: The Bainbridge boys’ lacrosse team is not playing Bellevue tomorrow night, but a week from tomorrow.)

Fastpitchers lose first game of season to Cougars

The Bainbridge fastpitch team had its five game winning streak snapped with a 9-6 loss to arch rival Holy Names Tuesday.

Hailey Willmann took the loss. The last time Bainbridge lost a Metro League game was April 4, 2008 when the Spartans lost 2-1 to the Cougars.

The Spartans rebounded with a 19-0 win over Lakeside Wednesday. Erin Kinney hit two home runs – one a grand slam – and drove in seven runs.

Katie Raben struck out 13 while hitting a homer as well. The Spartans played Bishop Blanchet Thursday, but results were not available at press time.

They host Lakeside (Nine Mile Falls) Friday at 4 p.m.

Boys lacrosse

The Bainbridge boys’ lacrosse team stayed undefeated with three wins over the past week.

Against King’s Way on Saturday, Cameron Parker led the way with four goals, two assists and five ground balls in the 12-7 win.

Henry Deery-Schmitt, Alexander Rabin, Alex Crane and Jacob Goodman all scored two goals while Julian Skotheim-Hills had 23 saves. Crane added eight ground balls.

Against West Linn, a high school near Portland, the Spartans had control of the game from the beginning in its 9-3 win Sunday.

Crane led the way with four goals while Deery-Schmitt and Parker scored two goals apiece.

Connor Cather had seven ground balls.

Against Vashon Wednesday, the Spartans crushed the Pirates 28-3. Bainbridge had 42 shots on goal.

Max Skotheim and Rabin scored four goals apiece while Jacob Knostman, Parker, Crane and Goodman scored three goals. Crane scooped 11 ground balls while Cather had 10 ground balls.

Bainbridge (5-0 league, 9-0 overall) travels to San Diego this weekend for a tournament.

Club gymnastics

Level 8 gymnast Chloe Seferos is the lone gymnast from the Bainbridge Island Gymnastics Club girls’ optional team to head to regionals.

She competed in the 2011 Washington State Championships March 25-27 in Poulsbo.

Seferos took fifth place on the vault, ninth place on the beam and ninth place on the floor. She took 10th in the all-around in the Junior B Division.

Seferos travels to the Regional 2 Championships this weekend in Pullman.

Boys soccer

The Bainbridge boys’ soccer team got back to winning ways this week.

The Spartans defeated Bremerton 1-0 Friday on a Alex Raquer goal off an assist from Michael Crowley. Bainbridge defeated Bishop Blanchet 4-1 on Tuesday as Connor Winship scored two goals and Alex Raquer added one.

Bainbridge (6-1-0) started a five game road trip at Seattle Prep Thursday. They travel to O’Dea Tuesday.

Baseball

The Bainbridge baseball team defeated Seattle Prep 2-1 in nine innings Friday as Paimon Jaberi drove in the game winning run with a base hit.

Bainbridge lost to Bremerton 9-3 in a non-league game Saturday. Nick Denney was 2 for 4 with two doubles and two runs scored.

The Spartans battled to a 7-7 tie with O’Dea Tuesday that was called on account of darkness. It will be resumed when Bainbridge travels to O’Dea in a few weeks.

Bainbridge defeated Lakeside 11-6 Wednesday.  Willie Schrek had three hits and four runs driven in while Zander Silverman drove in two runs with a double.

Bainbridge travels to Bishop Blanchet Friday.

Tennis

Sasha Carter and Grace Porter collected two more wins as the Bainbridge tennis team is still undefeated in season play.

Carter beat Laura Zhang of Lakeside in straight sets Friday.

The girls’ doubles team of Kelly Zwicker and Kate Jamison also won two matches as did Tessa Leachman and Isabella Stallworthy, Jacob Christensen and Jordan Ferguson.

Bainbridge travels to Yakima this weekend for the Pepsi Invite.
