Girl golfers win opener

The Bainbridge girls golf team got its season started right with a 105-89 win Monday at Wing Point Golf and Country Club.

Anna Bourland led the scoring for the Spartans with a 38 for 34 Stableford points. She had five pars and one birdie.

Ryan Nottingham shot a 43 for 29 points with two pars and one birdie while Peyton Lunzer shot a 46 for 26 points with two pars.

Maddy Devlin scored 16 points while Jasmine Shattuck scored 12 points and Julia Gross added 10.

Seattle Prep was led by senior Katrina Hegge, who shot a record 34 for 38 points.

Bainbridge heads to Jefferson Park in Seattle to play Franklin.

Spikers defeat Oly

The Bainbridge volleyball team took care of business in a rematch of its 2006 state tournament game by defeating Olympic 25-7, 25-18 and 25-16 Monday.

Emily Donohue led the way with 14 kills and six digs.

Janna Russell had nine kills, eight digs and three blocks while Brigette Blacker had eight digs, two blocks and three aces.

Heather Schneider and Camille Moore combined for 24 assists.

The match against South Kitsap scheduled for Tuesday was cancelled.

Bainbridge plays in the Puget Sound Adidas tournament at Auburn Mountainview High School Saturday.

They play at Tahoma at 7 p.m. Monday, then travel to Chief Sealth Wednesday.

Swimmers lose to MI

The Bainbridge girls’ swim and dive team lost to rival Mercer Island 177-120 Tuesday at the Mercer Island Beach Club.

Freshman Cameo Hlebasko won her first high school event, just missing setting a state qualifying time in the 200 yard freestyle.

Hlebasko did set a state qualifying time of 5.26.28 in the 500 freestyle.

She, along with Kristine Valdez, Julie Pendleton and India Wade, set a state qualifying time of 1:59.22 in the 200 yard medley relay.

The foursome also set a state qualifying time of 3:49.77 in the 400 freestyle relay.

Pendleton took first in the 200 individual medley with a state qualifying time of 2:17.21 and the 100 butterfly with a state qualifying time of 1:02.17.

Valdez just missed setting a state qualifying time in the 50 freestyle.

Bainbridge faced Camas yesterday. They host the 23rd annual Spartan Relays Saturday.

The Bainbridge Rookies fell just short in a defensive battle last Saturday. Bainbridge gave up just 136 yards on the ground and no passing yards. Bainbridge also held Issaquah to 15 yards on 14 carries during the entire second half.

CROSSFIRE SELECT 1

Last weekend, the BU11 Blue team coached by Mike Klein and James Ritchie started the season with a 4-1 win over Crossfire Select. Anton Easterbrook and Forrest Englin scored, the latter off a pass from Evan Hanson. In the second half Crossfire made a number of strong runs but the defensive back line comprised of Derek Klein, Ben Scott, Mateo Florez, and Ryan Cox stopped all but one 35-yard punt that could not be defended. Cade Taylor had a great game in goal with a number of saves. Matias Francis scored with a pass from Englin to cap the Bravehearts’ first win. This week the Bravehearts face Arsenal.
