Spartans wrap season’s last invites

KIRKLAND - The Bainbridge High School track team sent its athletes to two different venues recently for the season’s final invitationals.

KIRKLAND – The Bainbridge High School track team sent its athletes to two different venues recently for the season’s final invitationals.

The girl’s team competed at the Lake Washington Invite in Kirkland.

This meet is a girls only meet that features many of the best athletes from all divisions in the state.  The Spartan 4×400 meter team of Lindsay Wienkers, Aerin Amore, Natalie Ackerley and Mikelle Ackerley  had the team’s highest placing, finishing second in a time of 4:07.00, behind only the 4A team from Issaquah.

The other athlete that reached the podium (top eight finishers) was Mikelle Ackerley in the 800 meters in 2:16, which was good enough for eighth place. Her sister Natalie also competed in this event and was 19th overall with 2:20.

In the 400 meters, Lindsay Wienkers ran a very fast 61.09, which won her heat and placed her 23rd overall.

The 1500 meter race saw Naomi Von Ruden finish with a time of 5:09 in 32nd place.

Rounding out the girl’s competitors was Makaila Deen, who ran in the 300-meter hurdles and came in 41st in 51.55.

Meanwhile, the Bainbridge boys were competing at the boys only Shoreline Invite.

In the first event of the day, the Spartan distance medley relay team of Aaron Trapp (1200 meters), Kyle Hammer (400 meters), Wyatt Longley (800 meters) and Johan Griesser (1600 meters) came in a respectable 24th in 11:51.

Individual results had Casey Brink finishing in 29th in the 300 hurdles in 43.8.

Eric Jung had a long jump of 17-03, which was good enough for 33rd place.

Robert Davis competed in three events: the discus, in which he finished in 42nd with a throw of 95-08; the javelin, where he finished in 47th with a throw of 98-08; and the triple jump, where he came in 30th with a leap of 34-10.5.
