Spartans win on mat, but lose 2 due to forfeits

Because of forfeits due to a lack of wrestlers in specific weight classes, Bainbridge lost 42-34 to Port Angeles and 33-31 to North Mason Dec. 13.

The Roughriders only won three matches while BHS won five, but PA was awarded 24 points with four Spartan forfeits.

Port Angeles’ Chase Puksta pinned Spartan Stephen McKinnon at 132 pounds while John Grubbs pinned Retto Peato at 138 pounds.

Bainbridge responded with three straight victories. Spartans Baha Ali and Zane Turner earned pins at 144 and 150 pounds, while Wyatt Chabot picked up a 15-5 major decision against Anthony McMahon.

Port Angeles won the 165-pound match when Ethan Abrams pinned Andrea Berteletti. But the Spartans won the last two matchups at 175 and 190 pounds as Garrett Goade and Hayden Broom pinned their opponents.

The Spartans also forfeited four weight classes to give North Mason 24 points in their two-point loss. On the mat, BHS won six of the eight matches. McKinnon, Peato, Chabot and Broom pinned their opponents. Ali had a high-scoring battle at 144 pounds, defeating Blake Evans 13-10. Goade also won by technical fall, defeating Jayce Gasca 24-9.

North Mason’s Charles Broughton defeated Turner 6-1 and Pedro Salvadore pinned Berteletti for the only Bulldog wins.
