Spartans start with LAX win

BAINBRIDGE – They didn’t walk on water, but the Spartans sure walked all over Lake Sammamish.

The Bainbridge Spartans opened the girls lacrosse season with a 15-5 victory over the visitors from the Eastside last week at BHS Memorial Stadium.

Mackenzie Chapman picked up from where she left off last season as a Spartan super-scorer.

Chapman split the posts for five goals and had five assists. She finished the night with four ground balls, six draws and two caused turnovers.

Six other Spartans added to the BHS offense in the scorefest.

Kendall Havill and Maggie Sweeney added three goals each to the Spartan win.

Havill also contributed eight ground balls, one draw and two caused turnovers, while Sweeney also had three assists, three ground balls, five draws and a caused turnover.

Rounding out the BHS offense were Eleanor Collins, Bella Jackson, Abby Reibsamen and Madeleine Sherry, who all contributed one goal each.

Goalie Thuy Ortiz finished with one save on the night, as Lake Sammamish converted on all but one shot on goal.

Alex Mueller paced the Lake Sammamish offense with three goals.
