Spartans excel at Tacoma Invite

TACOMA - The Bainbridge High School track and field team posted some very impressive results at the recent Tacoma Invitational.

TACOMA – The Bainbridge High School track and field team posted some very impressive results at the recent Tacoma Invitational.

The Spartans traveled to Lincoln High School in Tacoma on Saturday, April 11 and took first place in multiple events.

The BHS girls distance medley relay team of Kellie Miller, Jackie McVay, Audrey Weaver and Naomi Von Ruden started the day off with an impressive 11-second win in a 16-team field in a time of 13:21.

That set the tone for the girls 4×400 meter team of Lindsay Wienkers, Natalie Ackerley, Aerin Amore and Mikelle Ackerley, and the foursome finished the day with a victory over a tough field of 13 with a 4-second margin in 4:03.59. That time places them first in the state in the 3A division currently.

In between, there were other stellar Spartan performances, including Mikelle Ackerley’s first-place finish in the girls 800 with a time of 2:18, and Sarah Lucioni placing third in the high jump with a 5-00 jump.

The top eight in each event scored points for their team and stood on the podium, and also making her way to the winners’ stand was Bainbridge’s Taylee Undem, who was sixth in the long jump at 15-03.

Other Spartans competing in Tacoma included Aerin Amore (ninth place, 200 meter), Natalie Ackerley (ninth, 400 meter), Allison Murphy (14th, 3200 meter), Jianna Kauffman (24th, 100-meter hurdles), Makaila Deen (10th, 300 hurdles; 20th, discus; and 23rd, javelin), Olivia Gallager (16th, high jump), Taylee Undem (18th, 100 meter), Grace Hall (19th, shot put), Makaila Deen (20th, discus), Grace Hall (11th, triple jump) and Sarah Rice (17th, triple jump). The Spartan girls 4×100 meter relay team of Wienkers, Deen, Hall and Kauffman also finished in 12th place.

On the boys side for Bainbridge, James Payne finished in 15th place in both the 100 meter and 200 meter.

Other standouts include David Kimmerlein (11th, 400 meter), Johan Griesser (18th, 1600 meter), Ben Scott (11th, 110-meter hurdles), Casey Brink (15th, 300-meter hurdles) and Robert Davis (17th, triple jump; 23rd, javelin; and 21st, discus).
