Spartans, Bucs shake up the courts

The Bainbridge Spartans and Kingston Buccaneers tennis teams shook things up in their rescheduled match April 26.

The two teams were set to play seven matches two weeks ago, but after 10 minutes they were canceled due to rain.

The Spartans returned to Kingston to play five matches instead and swept the Bucs 5-0. Since the number of matches shrunk, the lineups were mixed on both sides.

Spartan Ella Parker played the only singles match against Kingston’s Izzy Kim. Parker defeated Kim 6-0, 6-0.

Kristina and Katherine Walker represented the Spartans in the first doubles match. They beat Kylie Sandstrom and Kianna Clay 6-0, 6-1. In the next doubles match, Aya Gatto and Cece Combs defeated Cloie Rosas and Elena Casanora 6-1, 6-0.

Zoe Bellas and Ruby Morrow were the third doubles team for the Spartans. They kept the streak alive with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Monique DeSauza and Odessa Fejeran.

The final doubles match was the tightest one of all. Serena Ninshaw and Hazel Gori snuck past Rosa Turner and Romane Callusi 6-3 in the first set. In the second set, the Spartan duo dominated to a 6-0 victory.

Izzy Kim plans to serve the ball in the only singles match.
