Spartan wrestling kicks off new season

The Bainbridge Spartans recently began its wrestling season. Some of the Spartans began at the Patriot Dome Classic at Washington High Dec. 2 and 3. Wyatt Chabot dominated with a 4-0 record, including a 17-1 tech fall in the finals. Garrett Goade went 3-1, losing 7-4 in the finals, and Baha Ali and Zane Turner went 2-1 with losses to the eventual champion from Eatonville.

The Spartans returned to the mat Dec. 7 against East Jefferson. The Rivals defeated Bainbridge 42-21 in the first dual meet of the season. Both teams forfeited the 106, 113, 120 and 126-pound classes. Therefore, the dual began at 132 pounds.

Bainbridge and East Jefferson split the first two matches. Rival Isaiah Johnson pinned Spartan Stephen McKinnon in the first period while Spartan Retto Peatto pinned Rival Jeremiah Salmon in the second. East Jefferson’s Grady White and Manasah Lamphere-Ramirez pinned Bainbridge’s Baha Ali and Turner at 144 and 150 pounds. However, Chaboot kept the pin streak alive with a first-period defeat against Levi Donahue.

East Jefferson’s Rylen Kruse had the quickest defeat, pinning Spartan Andrea Berteletti in 46 seconds. Goade responded with a win by injury default. Although the Spartans fell short, Hayden Broom won the final match over Silas Klantz 9-4.
