SEATTLE – A Seattle meet featuring athletes from Bainbridge, Roosevelt and Ingraham gave the speedy Spartans a plethora of chances to stand out Thursday, April 20.
They did not squander the opportunity.
Three Bainbridge boys finished in the top 10 of the highly competitive 100-meter dash event: Sean Lindsey (fifth, 12.47, a personal record), Joshua Jelcick (seventh, 12.51, a personal record) and Ben Cibula (tenth, 12.75, a personal record).
In the 200-meters, the Spartans were led by Evan Kimmerlein (third, 24.68) and Leander von Specht (seventh, 25.35).
The one-two combo of Carter Hall (53.18, a personal record) and Kimmerlein (53.61) claimed the top two spots in the 400-meter event.
Bainbridge also claimed three spots in the top 10 of the 800-meters: Jacob Carlson (fourth, 2:14.7), Matthew Carlson (sixth, 2:20.8) and Reuben Allen (seventh, 2:20.9, a personal record).
And also in the 1600: Ben Soldow (sixth, 5:11.9, a personal record), Skyler Hallinan (eighth, 5:20.5, a season record) and Joshua Lewis-Sandy (ninth, 5:22.2, personal record).
In the 3200-meters, sophomore Carlo Ruggiero was the top Spartan (second, 10:07.2, a personal record).
Sophomore Spartan Elliott Windrope placed fourth in the 110-meter hurdles (18.59, a personal record), as did Sean Lindsey (46.33, a personal record) in the 300-meter hurdles.
In the 4×100 relay, the BHS team of Cibula, Joshua Jelcick, Patrick Ledoux and Allen claimed a fourth-place finish (49.79).
Freshman Elliot Weaver was the best from Bainbridge in the shot put (33-07.00, a personal record).
Sophomore Joe Tabisola was the No. 1 man in discus (129-00, a personal record).
Senior Hallinan tied for fourth place in the high jump (5-00.00, a season record) with Roosevelt’s Jack Bonicatto.
Freshman Ezra Tweiten claimed seventh in the long jump (13-05.75), and Hallinan fourth in the triple jump (33-07.50, a personal record).
On the girls’ side, Emma Brundige (second, 13.00, a personal record) and Ellen York (13.79) were the best from Bainbridge in the 100-meter dash.
Elizabeth Messinger (29.59) and Anika Lesko (29.61) were the top Spartans in the 200-meters.
In the 400-meter race, it was McKenzie Korican (first, 102.97) and Elizabeth Messinger (third, 1:05.18, a personal record) who best represented Bainbridge.
Sophomore Hannah Tonsman was the sole member of the island pack to place in the 1600-meters. She finished in second place (5:25.5). Likewise, it was senior Jacqueline McVay (12:25.7) who brought home second to Bainbridge in the 3200-meter event.
In the 100-meter hurdles, it was junior Jianna Kauffman (second, 18.34, a personal record) and freshman Sofia Trail (fourth, 19.02, a personal record) leading the way.
Kauffman also was the best from Bainbridge in the 300-meter hurdles (54.6, a season record).
Senior Maya Rovelstad was the top Spartan in the shot put (fifth, 24-11.50), and Samantha Anderson placed third in discus (80-03).
Perennial powerhouse and favorite for state, senior Sarah Lucioni claimed the first-place spot in the high jump (5-02.00).
Samantha Gerlach and Laura Murphy (6-00.00, both personal records) tied for second in the pole vault.
In the long jump, it was Marlie Keasler (sixth, 14-05.25, a personal record), who led the way for BHS.
The triple jump was a Spartan show all the way, with three of the top four finishers being Bainbridge Islanders: junior Ellen York (first, 31-11.00, a personal record), senior Maria Flynn (second, 31-02.50) and junior Amy Bourmatnov (fourth, 28-05.00, a personal record).
